BMX bikes
BMX bikes are a type of mountain bike with 18 to 24 inch wheels. These
bikes are specifically designed for racing and tricks. (Note that BMX
is an acronym which stands for bicycle motocross.)
BMX racing includes riding on tracks made of earth. With the explosion
of extreme sports BMX bikes have branched out to include performance
tricks, a sport of its own known as freestyle BMX. The five different
styles of BMX are Street, Park, Dirt, Flatland, and Vert.
BMX racing originated in California when teenagers on bicycles attempted
to imitate their motocross heroes. The sport has been featured on MTV's
X-games and now has an international governing body. In 2008, the world
will see BMX bikes racing for the first time in the Olympics in Beijing,
China.
