Bikes FAQs

If I'm not interested in the mountain or road bikes are there any other bikes for me?
There are some unusual bikes you may see on the road but won't find in a retail store unless you ask for them. Tandems, recombinants, and tricycles are all unique types of bicycles. Tandems allow more than one person to ride at the same time. Recombinants allow the cyclist to have his back perpendicular to his legs and provide the back rest. Tricycles have three wheels and are enjoyed by small children.

How much does a new bicycle cost?
A new bicycle can set you back $50 or as much as $20,000 depending on what the bike is made of, what type it is, and how little it weighs. Of course, the less a bike weighs the more quickly it will race. The lightest of road bicycles can weigh less than 7 pounds.

What items do I need to carry with me for basic maintenance?
When you're on the road, carry a pump, a spare inner tube, a CO2 cartridge, a puncture repair kit, and a set of tire levers. This will allow you to get to the next bike shop in case you have a flat tire. You can purchase a small container that will ride under your seat or over your handlebars to store the items that cannot be attached to the frame.
